Cancer: Everything You Need to Know About ‘The Monster Of Our Time’

I’m sure most readers may ask why I chose to call cancer “the monster of our time”. Well, I call this disease a monster because it has proven to be a no respecter of anyone, irrespective of age, gender or socio- economic status. It affects both young and old, male and female, rich and poor. Gone were the days when we thought cancer was the disease of the rich, it has proven to be the disease of both the rich and the poor.


Cancer is now one of the leading cause of death not only in Nigeria, but across the world. Many deaths worldwide has been linked to the different types of cancer. This has been associated with urbanization and industrialization. Permit me for using the big words here, what I mean is that our modern way of life that we see as a blessing has now proven to be a curse to us. In the name of making life better for ourselves we now eat preserved and canned foods that contain many carcinogenic substances that are harmful to our health and will result to cancer in the long run.
